What Are We Doing in Class?
Sight Words for the Year
Sight words (or otherwise known in class as "snap" words because we need to know them in a snap), are listed below in the order they are being introduced in class. So far I have introduced the first nine words. We are up to the word
"see". Start at the word "a" and follow the list going horizontially. This is the list for the entire year.

Making Kindergarten Successful!
Here are a lot of ways to make kindergarten a success for your child this year:
- Send them to school in VELCRO shoes if they cannot tie yet. It's hard for us as teachers to tie 26 pairs of shoes. We also want them to feel independent and successful by dressing themselves!
- Label all of their things. Backpack, shoes, art shirts, etc. Many times they don't recognize their stuff especially when children have the SAME SHOES.
- Put their snack in a front pocket in their back pack. Do not put it in their lunch. They'll get confused and eat their lunch or tell us they don't have a lunch when indeed they do because they think it's just their snack. Practice this with them and show them where the snacks are.
- Send two healthy snacks please. Fruits, veggies, crackers, cheese, raisins. Sugary treats will only give them a quick burst of energy and not give them the fuel they need for the day.
- Send back up clothes like underwear, pants, shorts, shirts, and socks. Many times the kids have accidents at school whether they spill on themselves, get wet, or have a bathroom accident. We will help them change and get comfortable so they can continue with their day.
- Send money for things like lunch, popcorn, book fair, and etc in a baggie or envelope with their name on it, teacher's name, and what the money is for. Do not send cash in their folders. If you send the cash in the folder it will most likely fall out and get lost. Many times the children don't know what the money is for and then I have to send it back to you.
Lunch Account
Don't forget you can check your child's lunch account balance, add money, and see what they've purchased all online! Go to:www.sendmoneytoschool.com/Dashboard/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f

Going Home
Please keep this as consistant as possible. I do know things come up and change quickly like a doctor's appointment and such. If you know this ahead of time, please send a note in their folder for me about the change in going home. If this is last minute, call the office at 878-6300 and let our office staff know. They will make sure that I get the information. If there happens to be a visiting teacher in my room, they do not have access to my email or voicemail and your child will go home their usual way causing confusion. Sometimes I cannot get my voicemail or email in the afternoon while teaching so calling the office is the best way.
Last- if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call or email me. Many times you may hear something and not know what's really going on. Lot's of times 5 year olds versions of what really happen are very different than what actually happened. Please contact me. I love hearing from you. This quote has always made me laugh and reminds parents to keep in touch with me if they have questions..
